20/20 VISION
Artwallace Inspired... stories about my paintings
Looking back at things I did during lockdown.
I wrote a poem for The Silence.
A Sense of Isolation
I work alone
longing for uninterrupted space
delving deep into my creativity.
Hours, days can go by in this way.
This is different
as silence echoes
around me
around you
around everyone.
My studio is my oasis,
a place I go to
to get lost in
in my imagination
colours flow and swirl.
The world
outside
is far
far
away.
Then reality hits.
A friend died.
We could not
grieve together
laugh together
cry together
share memories
stories
with family and friends.
This is different
as silence echoes
around me
around you
around everyone.
My little Tio is gone too.
Ten years by my side
his love and affection
gone but not gone
memories sustain me
the quiet inside me grows
to a warm silence
in my heart
where he is now forever.
The world
outside
is far
far
away.
There is a cherry tree
hanging over him
teaming with buds,
an arbor
to shelter him
dapple him
nestle him
with flowers.
Delicate ephemeral blossoms
petals dropping falling
remind me of
fragility
resilience
beauty
the preciousness of life.
The world
outside
now closer
recovery
begins.
Though scarred
imperfect
we are cherished
we are treasured
our intrinsic beauty
remains.
Yes
we are broken
pick up the pieces
resilience
human nature
gives me
hope.
Things will be different.
The silent echoes remain
around me
around you
around everyone,
a reminder.
As I say
the resilience of human
nature gives me hope.
